A suspect, John Gambo, has been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command in connection with the heinous murder of a student, Ibrahim Matthew, following a violent altercation.
According to a press release issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, the incident occurred on February 6, 2025, at about 0200hrs in a lodge behind ECWA Peace College, Shagari Road, Nasarawa.
Nansel stated that the police were alerted by a resident, Mercy Bassey, about a confrontation between two persons.
Upon arrival at the scene, he stated that detectives found Ibrahim Matthew, an ND2 Computer Science student at the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, FPN, lying in a pool of blood with fatal injuries.
He was rushed to General Hospital, Nasarawa, where he was confirmed dead. His body has been deposited at the morgue for a post-mortem examination.
“Following a swift investigation, the suspect, one John Gambo, a male ND2 student in the Banking and Finance Department of the same institution, was apprehended.
“The suspect confessed to violently attacking/hacking the deceased with both an axe and a knife, leading to Ibrahim Matthew’s tragic death.
“Both the axe and the knife were recovered from the suspect,” the statement read.
Nansel further stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
He assured the public of a thorough investigation and urged students and residents to remain calm while justice takes its course.
