Parents Of 4-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Murdered By Nsukka Drug Addict Plead For Justice

The parents of the late Miss Zina Ugwu, a four-year-old girl murdered in her sleep in Nsukka, Enugu State, by a suspected drug addict, Chukwuemeka Nweke, have pleaded with the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure justice for their daughter’s gruesome killing.

According to the traumatized parents, the drug addict, Nweke, had on August 18 2024 after an alleged illicit drug over dose charged into their residence, along Orba road Nsukka, at about 11:30 pm, ravaged their entire premises, made into their flat after forceful collapse of their door, held up the four year Zina who was sleeping and slit her throat in the full glare of her siblings and mother, Lovet.

Father of the victim, Dr. Ndubuisi Ugwu said that he was away at Etiti state where he lectures in the Federal University Oye-Ekiti when the sad incident happened.

He however lamented that the Police has made things very difficult for him by constantly demanding unaffordable amount of monies from him, while at the same time letting the landlord of his residence, Emeka Onyeishi and his wife and other accomplices off the hook with frivolous charges.

“Even the Murderer, Chukwuemeka Nweke was given only one charge of murder. Even though he was remanded in prison the matter has not moved from the magistrate court that lacks jurisdiction, but the landlord was quickly granted bail because no serious charge was preferred on him,” Ugwu lamented.

Dr Ugwu and the wife narrated that it was the landlord’s wife, Mrs Ngozi Onyishi who directed the murderer to their apartment, disclosing also that the murderer, Nweke, after the killing said publicly that he had accomplished the job which the landlord, Emeka Onyishi paid him one million naira to execute.

“I’m therefore asking the Inspector General of Police to give justice to my daughter, Zina, by using his good office to conduct thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that the landlord, the wife and other members of the compound who were accomplices are made to face the law.

“I firmly believe that the landlord, Mr. Emeka Onyishi, is connected to the brutal murder of my four-year old child. Several factors led me to this conviction. Firstly, the landlord was abundantly aware of Chukwuemeka Nweke’s criminal and destructive nature. He has used Nweke as his bodyguard and provided him with accommodation in his house.

“The landlord attempted to bribe me to drop the case. In the presence of his brother, his lawyer, my brother and others, the landlord promised to offer me N500,000 to remove his side of involvement from the case . When I declined, his brother warned that whether I accept the money or not, the case would not go anywhere and that I would not be able to do anything,” Ugwu narrated.

He prayed the Inspection General of Police to re arrest the landlord and should be thoroughly questioned about his activities and relationship with the murderer, Chukwuemeka Nweke, same as the landlord’s wife and one of their neighbors, Nwanyiocha, who was accused to have previously locked up their child in what looked like an attempted kidnap.

“Let justice be served for the senseless murder of my innocent daughter. We implore that justice be administered in the nearest possible time, putting an end to the delay that has prolonged our suffering. We seek a fast-tracked justice administration,” Dr Ugwu and her wife pleaded.
