The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ekiti State Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the circulation of hard drugs and substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, Ice, Loud, and Colorado in the state.
A press statement issued by the NSCDC on Thursday evening disclosed that the suspects were arrested at Ikoro Ekiti and Ilawe-Igbara Odo Road.
The statement said the arrest followed a routine check and surveillance launched by the Counter-Terrorism Unit of Ekiti NSCDC.
Four of the suspects – Peter Emmanuel, 30, John Friday, 23, Bolarinde Oluwaseun, 32, and Oladele Samuel, 25 – were arrested along the Igabara Odo/Ilawe axis after a routine search revealed suspected illicit drugs in their bags.
Two additional suspects, Abdulahi Olayinka, 27, and Yakubu Kamarudeen, 22, were arrested at Iloro Ekiti while attempting to distribute suspected cannabis sativa.
The duo was reportedly in control of the cannabis supply in the town, with multiple complaints from residents about their illicit activities.
The statement reads: “Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ekiti State Command has paraded six suspects in connection with illegal dealings in hard drugs and circulation of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, Ice, Loud and Colorado in Ekiti State.
“The suspects were arrested at Ikoro Ekiti and Ilawe -Igbara Odo road in Ekiti State following a route check and surveillance launched against criminals by the Counter Terrorism Unit of Ekiti NSCDC in which six persons were apprehended while others were at large.
“The suspects Peter Emmanuel 30 years, John Friday 23 years, Bolarinde Oluwaseun 32 years and Oladele Samuel 25 years were arrested along Igabara Odo/Ilawe axis of the state when the operative of the unit stopped the suspects for a routine search which led to the discovery of suspected illicit drugs kept inside their bags while trying to flee from the men of the Command.
“Abdulahi Olayinka 27 years and Yakubu Kamarudeen 22 years were arrested at Iloro Ekiti when they were trying to distribute illicit substance suspected to be cannabis sativa in the town.
“The suspects were in control of supply of cannabis in the town with series of complaints from the people that the duo are known for this illicit act and other criminal activities in the town.
“Parading the suspects, the State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ekiti State Command Oluwaseun Paul Sosina PhD fsi assured the people that the State Command who has been working in synergy with other paramilitary agencies in the state will hand over the suspects to the appropriate agencies after preliminary investigation from the Command with an assurance that Ekiti State NSCDC is now positioned to respond to distress calls and challenge criminal elements that want to trouble the existing peace of Ekiti People.”
