The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has expressed displeasure over the racist abuse against Super Eagles defender, Calvin Bassey during Sunday’s FA Cup game against Manchester United on Sunday.
Bassey opened the scoring at Old Trafford with Bruno Fernandes’ later equalizing, but it was the west London club that secured a quarter-final spot after winning 4-3 on spot-kicks.
His outstanding performance in the FA Cup clash was marred by racist comments from some supporters on his social media account.
This has now sparked a strong reaction from the NFF via a post on its official X account.
“The NFF stands firmly against all forms of discrimination, including racial abuse, and fully supports Calvin Bassey in the face of these unacceptable actions,” the post read.
“We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all players, both on and off the field. Calvin has our unwavering support, and together, we will continue to fight against racism in football and society.”
