Many Advocates Of ‘Justice For Mohbad’ Are Paid To Spread Lies Against Late Singer’s Wife, Wunmi – Lawyer

The legal counsel for Mrs. Omowunmi Aloba, widely known as Wunmi and the wife of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (popularly known as Mohbad), has claimed that many individuals advocating for “Justice for Mohbad” are merely seeking personal gain rather than genuinely pursuing justice for the deceased artist.

In a statement titled “Mohbad’s Death: Facts and Fiction,” Kabir Akingbolu, Esq., of Salawu, Akingbolu & Co. law firm, alleged that most people rallying under the “Justice for Mohbad” banner are spreading falsehoods about Wunmi while simultaneously profiting from those harassing her both online and offline.

Akingbolu stated, “In the last few weeks, the social media had been awash with all sorts of variegated lies, manipulation of facts and concoction of bad tales against our client, Mrs. Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba to the effect that she was the one who pushed her husband to death from the staircase.

“As a result of the foregoing, there is a compelling need to set the record straight and save the public from being manipulated by some jobless liars and emergency social media activists who have seen the noise being made on the social media as a source of income, and it is for the records, some of the wicked lies are here under highlighted;

“Majority of those crying foul under the caption of “Justice for Mohbad” are just looking for what to eat, in other words, it is justice for their pockets because they collect a lot of money from some people who have been fingered in the harassment and bullying of the late singer.”

According to Akingbolu, Mohbad as a celebrity was a “never-walk-alone man” when he was alive, hence, had a lot of people with him when the unfortunate incident of his death occurred, “as borne out by the evidence of those who have testified at the coroner’s Inquest.”

Akingbolu said that by the evidence at the Coroner’s Inquest, Ayobami Sadiq, Spending, Adura, the nurse – Fiyisayo Ogedengbe, and Wunmi – who was going and coming preparing food in the kitchen, were all with Mohbad when the nurse injected him and he reacted immediately but unfortunately lost his life.

He questioned, “How possible or how powerful can Wunmi, the wife of Mohbad be, that she will be able to command all of them to keep quiet without revealing this secret until now?

“Why has the whole world not asked the father (Mr. Joseph Aloba) who surprisingly kicked against shifting or postponing the burial of Mohbad till a later date but now asking for ‘Justice for Mohbad?’”

He argued that if Mohbad had not been hurriedly buried, there would have been an autopsy carried out immediately to detect the cause of death, but it was not done.

Akingbolu further questioned, “Why on earth should anybody believe that there is a video showing when the wife allegedly pushed him to death when witnesses at the coroner’s inquest gave evidence that the CCTV was not functional?”

He said, “All those parroting the idea of a purported video never knew where Mohbad was living until his death, including Wunmi’s sister.

“The alleged impostor, Damola Ayinde, who impersonated Adura, the younger brother of Mohbad, has confessed to the police that he only lied so that he could get paid for his nefarious act and he has already been charged to court and still standing trial before the magistrate court of Lagos State at Ogba.”

He recalled that the pathologist that gave evidence at the Inquest stated that although they bent Mohbad’s head in the coffin because the coffin was smaller than him, his neck’s bones were intact and not broken at all.

Akingbolu said, “While Kemi Olunloyo and her cohorts did posit that Mohbad’s neck was punctured by the broken iron railing of the staircase resulting in the puncturing of his carotid arteries on his neck, as a result of being allegedly pushed by Wunmi, one Yomi Fabiyi alleged in his own version that his head hit the stairs and got broken when his wife pushed him at the staircase.

“The question to ask is; who is now lying, and who is believing these tissues of lies?

“Why did Joseph Aloba, (Mohbad’s father), his mother, including all his friends around him not raise the alarm from day one? Or even till date?

“How come it is outsiders who are now peddling these false narratives?”

He stated that although Mohbad’s father made mention of Wunmi’s alleged boyfriends killing Mohbad, he has failed to mention any of them, or how the “concocted” boyfriends killed Mohbad and with what or in the presence of who.

“Again, why did Mr. Joseph Aloba, who had been calling for DNA on Liam run and abandon doing the DNA when Wunmi’s lawyer wrote him several letters to come for the samples?

“Please note that of great significance is the ruling of the magistrate court at Yaba Lagos, today 25th February, 2025 which exonerated Naira Marley but recommends that Ayobami Sadiq and the nurse (Fiyisayo Ogedengbe) will have to face trial.

“The world also needs to know why Mohbad’s father, worked in connivance with some people to stay the coroner’s inquest proceedings, yet going round every radio station to tell stories and lies without mentioning the issue of DNA again,” Akingbolu stated.

He added, “It has come to our attention that some people are planning a sponsored protest against 27th of February, 2025.

“It is our opinion that every citizen has a right of protest and they are encouraged to stage their naked dance on the streets but we know that no reasonable Nigerian will take them seriously.

“This press release becomes necessary to put the record straight, and to also nail the lies of those feeding fat on blackmail to the mast in their pseudo- Justice for Mohbad.”

Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023, triggered massive protests and widespread calls for justice, with suspicions of foul play directed at multiple figures, including Naira Marley, owner of his former record label and Sam Larry.

Viral videos and social media testimonies alleged that the late singer suffered harassment and intimidation before his untimely passing.

On the other hand, there have been a series of allegations and counter-allegations against Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, who some social media influencers have accused of killing her husband.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Sabo, Yaba, on Tuesday, dismissed all allegations against Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and Primeboy, citing legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) in Lagos, which stated that they had no case to answer regarding Mohbad’s death.

Also cleared of criminal liability was Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde.

However, the DPP confirmed that the auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad before his death, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and one of the late singer’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq, would face prosecution for reckless and negligent acts contrary to Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
