A 36-year-old man, Umar Faruq has been sentenced to 5 years imprisonment by a High Court sitting in Bauchi for human trafficking and exploiting a 2-year-old child.
This followed a case filed by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, Bauchi State Command.
The anti-human trafficking agency disclosed this in its official Facebook page on Friday, noting that the offence was contrary to Section 21 of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
In a judgment by Justice Makama, Umar Faruq was also slammed with a N2 million fine by the court for obtaining possession of a two-year-old child for exploitation.
“He was also sentenced to five years imprisonment and a N1 million fine for facilitating the act, under Section 13(4)(c) of the same Act. Both sentences are to run concurrently.”
