On Saturday, two factory workers were rescued in the Ikosi area of Lagos by officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the state fire service after becoming trapped while working on a diesel reservoir.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident, stating it occurred around 10 a.m. The workers were reportedly carrying out repair work on the diesel reservoir when the accident happened.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the victims accidentally fell into the diesel reservoir, while the second victim fell into the same reservoir while attempting to rescue his colleague,” Oke-Osanyintolu explained.
He added that both victims sustained severe conditions but were promptly administered first aid, including CPR, by emergency responders. They were then transported to the hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for further medical attention.
The incident scene has since been secured while emergency responders continue to assess the area to prevent a recurrence.
