I Won’t Run For Senate After My Tenure As Governor – Alex Otti

Gov Alex Otti

Gov Alex Otti of Abia has stated that he would not contest for senatorial seat after completing his tenure in office.

Speaking over the weekend at a reception held in his honour by the Union of Anambra State Associations, Aba Branch, Otti said he would retire from active partisan politics after serving a second term to allow the younger ones to serve.

“I will not be interested in the senate after my second term, but would retire from active partisan politics to allow the younger ones to serve,” the governor stated.

He emphasized that his administration is focused on delivering democratic dividends and correcting the wrongs of past governments. Otti specifically referenced the 2011 disengagement of non-indigenes from the Abia State civil service, which affected many Anambra indigenes, promising that his government is reviewing ways to address the injustice.

Though the action was taken before he assumed office in 2023, Otti said efforts are ongoing to provide relief for those affected. He also reiterated his administration’s inclusive governance stance.

“For us, that thing called state of origin, we have already abolished it. I maintain, if you live here and you are a good citizen, you pay your taxes here, you are from here,” he said.
