Anambra Governor’s Wife Vows Justice For Woman Set Ablaze By Husband

Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, has made a vow to follow up closely on the case of a man who allegedly set his wife on fire in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, until full justice is served.

The governor’s wife made this known after receiving details of the viral incident from the Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, and her health counterpart, Dr. Afam Obidike, whom she directed to immediately visit the scene of the incident.

In her reaction to the incident, which she described as “gruesome and evil,” Soludo pledged to ensure the case reaches a just conclusion.

She insisted that “full justice must be made to take prime place in the whole process.”

She further emphasised the administration’s firm stance on domestic violence, describing such acts as serious crimes.

“No one found guilty of such offences would be let to walk free,”
she stated.

Soludo also expressed strong disappointment at the increasing cases of violence and abuse in homes, reissuing her call for significant social reformation.

According to her, this reform should include a systemic approach to combating drug abuse and related problems.

The governor’s wife highlighted the need for urgent support for the victim’s five children, stating, “The state government will now find the best approach to take care of the five children whom, she said, should be in the most careful manner.”

The incident involved the victim, Chioma Nwaka, a mother of five boys, who was seen in a viral gory video on social media on Tuesday, struggling to escape while covered in third-degree burns on her torso and other body parts.

Eyewitnesses recounted the horrific event, saying, “The victim’s husband, Obiozor Nwaka, a middle-aged man who, alongside their five sons, depended on the wife’s petty business to survive, emptied a can of fuel on the woman and immediately set her on fire over a little family misunderstanding.

“It was passersby and neighbours who managed to put out the fire, though it had dealt significant burns on the victim,” they said.

Chioma was rushed to a medical facility in Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area, where she was pronounced dead at around 3 a.m. on Wednesday.
