A truly tragic plane crash that occurred on Friday in Northeast Philadelphia resulted in the loss of all six lives on board.
The Learjet 55, which was headed to Mexico from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, crashed near the Roosevelt Mall around 6:10 p.m., engulfing the area in flames.
Among the victims were a child and their mother. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo confirmed the tragic loss, revealing that all six passengers were Mexican nationals.
Several ground injuries have been reported following an explosion that left a vast field of debris, damaged buildings, and burned-out cars, 6abc Action News reports.
Also, according to the office ofPhiladelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker, all six passengers, including a mother and her daughter, were killed when the medical plane crashed.
Philadelphia Mayor Parker mentioned that “many people on the ground” were injured as homes and fires in the area were ablaze in the aftermath, BBC reports.
The medical transport plane was taking the girl, who had been receiving care in the US for a life-threatening condition, back to Tijuana, Mexico. Four crew members were also on board.
In a statement, Shriners Children’s Hospital said that the child on board had received care at their Philadelphia location and was being transported back to her home country of Mexico, along with her mother, when the crash occurred
The company that operated the flight, Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, said in a statement there were four crew members on board.
