Akwa Ibom Police Rescue Kidnap Victim As Abductors Flee During Gun Duel

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, attributing the operation’s success to the command’s commitment to crime fighting and public safety.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command rescued a kidnapped victim in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area after a fierce gunfight drove the abductors to abandon him, leaving him unharmed.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, attributing the operation’s success to the command’s commitment to crime fighting and public safety.



“On February 13, 2025, based on a report that a man (name withheld) was kidnapped along Okop Eto Road and taken to an unknown destination, operatives swiftly acted on credible intelligence. They engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel, and the hoodlums, overwhelmed by superior firepower, fled with severe gunshot injuries, abandoning the victim.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the officers for their swift response and reassured residents of the command’s determination to combat crime. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The PPRO confirmed that the victim was safely reunited with his family and that his stolen ash-colored Lexus RX 350 SUV was recovered during the operation.

She added that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and recover weapons used in the crime to bring those responsible to justice.
