NAFDAC Uncovers Expired USAID-Donated Condoms Repackaged For Sale

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered and seized expired condoms donated by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

NAFDAC revealed that the condoms which expired in 2022 were repackaged under the name “Kiss Condom” with the expiration date extended to 2027.

The Nigerian drug agency made the revelation in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.

According to the statement, NAFDAC also uncovered unregistered narcotics, counterfeit GlaxoSmithKline, GSK medicines, and vaccines that were not properly stored.

The agency revealed that some of the drugs were shockingly found in toilets during the operation at the Idumota open drug market, Lagos State.

NAFDAC said it seized banned drugs such as Analgin, Oxytocin for maternal health, Vaccines meant for cold chain storage while other donated medical products were recovered.

The agency vowed to continue its crackdown on counterfeit and substandard medical products, emphasising the grave health risks posed by the criminal practices.
