Lagos Slashes Red Rail Fares By 33%

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a reduction in the price of red rail fares.

He announced a 33% deduction in price.

This was confirmed in a post he made on X, which read:

“Today, I commissioned the newly completed Abule Egba Bus Terminal in Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), which is designed to enhance seamless mass transportation from this suburb to other parts of our city.

This strategic bus terminal, located near the Lagos Red Line corridor, provides a convenient route for passengers to board and exit buses and connect to other transportation options.

This project marks another significant milestone in my administration’s commitment to upgrading Lagos’ public transportation system with modern, sustainable infrastructure that meets the commuting needs of our citizens.

Our vision is to enhance mobility and stimulate urban and economic growth through interconnected transportation networks, offering residents various commuting options by rail, water, or land.

To further improve access to intracity rail transport, I announced a 30% reduction in fares for the Lagos Red Line service, lowering costs from N1,500 to N1,000.

I am also pleased to share that we expect new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric buses to arrive by the third quarter of this year, which will expand our fleet, increase bus availability, and reduce waiting times at bus stops.

I urge residents to take ownership of this project, as it has been made possible through your tax contributions. Please take pride in it, protect it, and ensure it remains safe from harm. By safeguarding these assets, we can all benefit from their long-term value and continue to build a better future for our community.”
