14 Persons Rescued In Lagos From Major Accident On Third Mainland Bridge

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has successfully rescued 14 individuals involved in a serious road accident at Ilaje, heading towards Iyana-Oworonshoki on the Third Mainland Bridge.

The crash involved a Mazda commercial bus and a Toyota Yaris.

According to LASTMA, in a statement signed by Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, the accident was caused by reckless speeding, which led to the bus driver losing control and forcefully colliding with the moving Toyota Yaris.

The impact resulted in multiple casualties, requiring urgent emergency intervention.

LASTMA said its officials, alongside the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), “responded swiftly, pulling out 14 injured individuals from the wreckage.”

Among them was the driver of the commercial bus.

Security operatives from the Alonge Police Station were also present, ensuring order and securing the rescue efforts.

Following the rescue operation, all 14 victims were handed over to LASAMBUS personnel, who immediately transported them to Gbagada General Hospital for urgent medical care.

Speaking on the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, stressed the importance of adhering to speed limits to prevent such tragedies.

He stated, “There is a pressing need for both commercial and private motorists to comply with officially sanctioned speed limits to avert needless road fatalities.”
