Three officers have been dismissed by the Nigeria Police Force, Abia State Command, over conspiracy, abduction, and extortion.
According to Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer for Abia State Command in a statement, the affected officers are; Sergeant Jonas Nnamdi, Corporal James Daniel, and Corporal Ifeanyi Emeka.
They were dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on February 7, 2025, and handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution, along with their civilian accomplices.
The officers were arrested on 29 January 2025 by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Abayi after they were caught armed with an electric baton, an assault rifle, and a Beretta pistol.
They had allegedly conspired to hire a minibus, abduct civilians along the Port-Harcourt Expressway, threaten and extort them, and later demand additional money from their families for their release.
“An investigation/orderly room trial was initiated by the Command, and the investigation confirmed their involvement in the unprofessional conduct which are prejudicial to discipline and unbecoming of officers of the Nigeria Police Force, leading to their dismissal,” the statement read.
“Their official accoutrements have been retrieved by the Command’s Provost, and they cease to be members of the force.”
CP Danladi Isa reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance for corruption and misconduct, stating that “discipline and professionalism is the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force.”
He assured the public that “the command will not condone the activities of bad eggs in the force” and emphasised that his leadership remains committed to the Inspector General of Police’s vision for a professional, service-driven, and rule-of-law-compliant police force.
