Kano State To Spend N2.5bn On Mass Weddings

The Government of Kano State has earmarked N2.5 billion for the conduct of quarterly mass weddings across its 44 local government areas in 2025.

The State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, disclosed this while presenting the breakdown of the state’s 2025 budget recently passed into law by the State House of Assembly.

According to Shanono, the mass wedding initiative is part of the N91.32 billion allocated to the governance and service delivery sector, which includes various social programs.

The Commissioner further revealed that N1 billion has been allocated for Ramadan feeding programs, while N955 million will be spent on manpower statistics surveys, general household surveys, and the enumeration of out-of-school children.

Additionally, N1.049 billion is set aside for purchasing printing machines, rehabilitating the general water system, and equipping the Government Printing Press library.

Highlighting further allocations, Shanono said N267.6 million would be spent on infrastructure provision, printing of the Islamic calendar, and support for Islamic Da’wah programs, including welfare packages for new converts to Islam.

The budget also allocates N589 million for security research, street begging intervention activities, and empowerment development.

Meanwhile, N200 million has been set aside for office furniture procurement, maintenance of the Accountant-General’s office, and public finance management reform activities.

Shanono announced that the approved 2025 budget amounts to N719.75 billion, a 31% increase from the N549.16 billion initially submitted by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The budget comprises N262.67 billion for recurrent expenditure and N457.08 billion for capital expenditure.

Compared to the 2024 budget, it represents a 65% increase, amounting to N282.41 billion.
