The former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC Omoyele Sowore has been slammed by the Afenifere Youth Coalition.
The group tackled Sowore over what they described as “relentless attacks on Yoruba public office holders”, particularly the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.
Recall that Sowore, a popular Nigerian activist was recently arrested by the Nigeria Police over his allegation that the IGP’s continued stay in office was illegal.
The activist was arraigned in a Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday and was subsequently granted N10 million bail.
Reacting to Sowore’s recent outings, Rasak Oladosu, Director of Strategy and Samuel Isijola, President of the coalition condemned Sowore’s alleged “defamation, blackmail, and cyberbullying”, calling for legal action to hold him accountable.
At a press conference held in Lagos on Friday the coalition accused Sowore of misusing the social media to spread misinformation and incite unrest in the country.
They described Sowore as a “failed politician and professional troublemaker” who has built a career in controversy rather than genuine activism.
According to the coalition, Sowore’s presidential ambitions under AAC exposed his lack of leadership capacity, noting the activist’s “inability to secure significant electoral support”.
“To Nigerians, we say, do not be deceived by his theatrics. Sowore does not care about the Nigerian citizens, he only cares about his pockets and anti-democracy sponsors.
“To his supporters, we caution: Do not allow yourselves to be used by a man whose agenda is purely selfish. Everyone must understand that Social media is not the court of law.
“To the judiciary and security agencies, we urge: Let the law take its course. Sowore must be held accountable for his reckless and defamatory actions.
“Nigeria is bigger than any individual, and we will not allow one man’s selfish agenda to derail the progress and focus of our nation,” the coalition added.
