His debut season has been satisfactory from a statistical point of view, but Nicolas Jackson had another frustrating moment in front of goal for Chelsea.
Nicolas Jackson was caught in two minds when through on goal
Chelsea fans did not hide their frustrations after Nicolas Jackson squandered a golden opportunity against Manchester City.
The Senegalese forward has endured a mixed debut season at Stamford Bridge since his £35million move from Villarreal last summer. Unfortunately, his nervous finishing came back to haunt him in the first-half of the Blues’ FA Cup semi-final clash with City.
A wonderful pass from Enzo Fernandez played the 23-year-old clean through on goal. Just as Chelsea fans were preparing to cheer, Jackson got caught in the moment and did not even get a shot on goal.
He took a big touch forward then slowed down to look at City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega. After the City No.2 shot-stopper held his ground, Jackson chopped the ball past him onto his left foot.
His touch was too far wide and once he realised City defenders had got back onto the line, he came back onto his right foot and tried to find Cole Palmer. His pass was too short and the chance was cleaned up by City’s recovering defenders.
Chelsea fans were less than pleased. “Kick the damn ball man” one rather upset fan said. A second added: “This is exactly what I mean about Jackson how has a one-on-one become a pass?”
